I pretty much have been in a blue and red color combo rut lately. I don’t know why. And you can’t particularly tell from this here blog. I’ve been trying my hardest to mix it up. Just figure that every day I’m not doing outfit photos, I’m wearing red and blue together.

Today was no different. Though I did try to down play it a bit. Using a dark maroon instead of bright red.

Oh yea, and more We Love Colors tights! This pair is from the second round of purchasing. I also got two other pairs. What can I say? I’m obsessed.

Half way through taking pictures, Sean showed up in the doorway and started creeping.

Sean got me a camera remote for Christmas. This is actually my second time using it, I just forgot to mention it last time. I love it! It takes about a third of the time to take outfit photos as it did with the self timer. The magic of this is something that you just can’t explain to somebody who doesn’t take daily pictures of themselves. IMG_4126-2 The life of a blogger…

Sometimes, when I use spit to slick down that silly part of my hair that stands up in the morning, I feel like a boy from the 50’s. George McFly in Back To The Future comes to mind. Funny thing to do, you might think. But it really helps. Better than water usually.

I feel that last comment pretty sums up this post for you. Hope you are all having a good week! Today is my Friday! See you tomorrow for a fun filled New Years Eve!

P.S. Welcome to my new couple of followers! As always, it’s nice to know that I’m not just typing to myself.

History Hump #8

Two days till New Years Eve! Whoa! Lets learn a little about fireworks, shall we? In honor of the new year, ya know.

Plus, they’re so pretty!

Fireworks

“Many people associate fireworks with Independence Day, but their original use was in New Year's celebrations. Do you know how fireworks   were invented? Legend tells of a Chinese cook who accidentally spilled saltpeter into a cooking fire, producing an interesting flame. Saltpeter, an ingredient in gunpowder, was used as a flavoring salt sometimes. The other gunpowder ingredients, charcoal and sulfur, also were common in early fires. Though the mixture burned with a pretty flame in a fire, it exploded if it was enclosed in a bamboo tube.”

“This serendipitous invention of gunpowder appears to have occurred about 2000 years ago, with exploding firecrackers produced later during the Song dynasty (960-1279) by a Chinese monk named Li Tian, who lived near the city of Liu Yang in Hunan Province. These firecrackers were bamboo shoots filled with gunpowder. They were exploded at the commencement of the new year to scare away evil spirits. Much of the modern focus of fireworks is on light and color, but loud noise (known as "gung pow" or "bian pao") was desirable in a religious firework, since that was what frightened the spirits. By the 15th century, fireworks were a traditional part of other celebrations, such as military victories and weddings. The Chinese story is well-known, though it's possible fireworks really were invented in India or Arabia.”

Now they use compressed air rather than gunpowder to shoot off the fireworks. It makes for increased accuracy, and less smoke and residue. Which, if you live anywhere near Disneyland, you are very thankful for. For realz.

I know that I will be enjoying some serious fireworks on NYE. How about you?

Outfit Details: Dress- Tulle; Top- Forever 21; Tights- We Love Colors; Shoes- Target

Let me start this post off with a declaration. We Love Colors are THE BEST tights I have ever worn. Sean got me two pars for Christmas and I have already gone back for three more pairs. I normally have to double up, especially if I’m going out in the cold we’ve been having. No need with these girls. They are so thick and so comfy. I’m pretty much living in them.

A couple weeks back, I won a giveaway from the amazing Amanda of The Upside of Wonder. It was a $25 gift card to Threadsence. After much deliberation, and waiting on out-of-stocks, I finally chose this little beaut of a purse. I pretty much love it more and more every time I look at it. That’s a sign of a good purchase if I’ve ever seen one.

That’s all for now.

Sean is on vacation for the next week and a half, and I can already tell it’s going to put a wrench in my blogging schedule. What can I say. I like spending too much time with the guy.

Anyone else on vacation for the holidays? I’m taking off six days in a row next week!

Film Friday

I’m too busy being festive to do a real Film Friday post today. Sorry!

But hey! It’s Christmas Eve! Go watch Elf!

I’ll admit it. It’s my favorite Christmas movie. I mean, it dethroned A Christmas Story as the day after Thanksgiving movie. There’s not much more I can say about it!

Merry Christmas!

Outfit Details: Sweater- Kroger; Skirt- pinafore from Modcloth; Leggings- American Apparel; Socks- Target; Shoes- Vintage

Yes, it’s true, I bought this sweater at a grocery store! I love it! It’s pretty much my new favorite. I don’t really have anything else pink in my whole wardrobe, so this is fun for me. Weird, I know.

The leggings are even better.

IMG_4032-2

IMG_4034-2

I have been wanting leather pants for a while. But I lack the confidence to actually wear them. So, I have been looking for a pair of leather (or faux) leggings. I got a gift card (Groupon actually) from my brother and sis-in-law for American Apparel. I have been trying to figure out what I wanted to get for a little while. Unfortunately, as you all know, AA is not the cheapest place to shop. I ventured in to the location here in Nashville to try my hand at just picking something out on the spot.

I walked in and almost immediately found these. The only ones they had left. And in my size! It was great. They are a little baggy in the knees. But other than that, they are great.

As soon as I got them, I knew I wanted to pair them with this pinafore. To balance out the edge. I didn’t mean to be quite as much of a cupcake up top. But it turns out that I like it.

Happy Christmas Eve-Eve!

History Hump #7

With Christmas so close, your probably asking yourself. Who is this Santa guy anyways? Well. friends, I’m here to help.

Another video? Boy, have the seasons got me lazy or what!? I also found some great information on this page here, if you feel like doing a little reading. But again, it’s the holidays, so it’s not required.

Have a great day! Just two more days of work for me till I get to start enjoying some time off! Sean and I are doing Christmas alone this year. It’ll be our first one without family. I feel so grown up! That’s unusual! Ha! Are you spending time with family this year? or going it alone like the cool kids?

Outfit Details: Dress- Tulle; Flannel- thrifted; Socks- Target; Boots- Nordstrom Rack

I had a lovely evening with Sean filled with filled hot chocolate, popcorn and movie watching. It was so nice to sit down and watch a movie for real. One that we hadn’t seen yet, and not when we were in bed trying to fall asleep.

We watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, in case you were wondering. We loved it! I heard some people didn’t. They were wrong. Just saying.

We decorated our fireplace for Christmas. If you think that our house seems festive and clean. It’s just an optical illusion. We took out Christmas card photo the next morning, so we cleaned up just the spot we needed to. We are lazy.

We got our first batch of presents from my mom the other night, and the cats can’t wait to open them. They already started trying. I guess that giant stocking wasn’t enough for them!

Are you celebrating Christmas this year? If so, what are your plans?

Outfit Details: Dress- “Oh, it is love” from Ruche; Top- American Eagle; Shoes- vintage; Jacket- Modcloth

Ever since I saw Starr of A Thought Is The Blossom wearing this dress last year on her blog, I have been in love. The one she wore was pink, but other than the color, it’s the same. The print is a super adorable flower print.

The heart is what gets me.IMG_3953-2IMG_3961-2

I wore this dress to work. Same outfit except with a Trader Joe’s shirt on. It worked. I worked. You get it.

The best part? You could see the Trader Joe’s in the heart. It was so adorable!

See you on the flip side.

DIY Friday

In lieu of a Film Friday, this week I’m going to bring you a little DIY Christmas project that I cooked up.

For some reason, in the last three years, Sean and I have been Christmas tree free. Not consciously, not on my part. We just never get around to getting one, or clearing a spot for it to go even if we did get one. So, I tend to get a little creative on the tree front. Two years ago, I got Sean two manikins for Christmas. One, I decorated like a tree. We used that same thing last year. This time around, I decided to mix it up.

Remember in elementary school when you had those displays that were felt on felt? And you could move the little figures around because the felt stuck to the felt? Well, that was my plan with my tree this year. Felt on felt, so that I could change it and decorate it however I wanted, and so that it was able to be saved. I made it in about two hours. So it’s nothing too crazy.

Here’s what you need:

IMG_3962-2

A poster board the height that you want your tree to be. Green felt for the tree base. Various felt colors for ornaments. Fancy stuff for further decoration. Scissors (not shown) for cutting tree shape and decorations.

IMG_3964-2

A sneaky holiday kitty for assistance!

IMG_3967-2

A glue gun.

IMG_3979-2

Some holiday cheer!

IMG_3981-2

And another special holiday kitty!

(kitties optional)

Step One:

IMG_3970-2

Attach green “tree base” felt to poster board using hot glue.

Step Two:

IMG_3971-2 Cut poster board with felt attached, into tree shape. I used pinking shears to get a more “realistic” and interesting branch edge.

IMG_3972-2

After!

Step Three:

IMG_3973-2

Create ornaments. I made circles, circles with embellishments, “gingerbread” men, “gingerbread” houses, bells, and other random shapes. You can do whatever you choose. I’m not the best arts and crafter in the world, so I’m sure you can come up with plenty of fun things to do on your own!

Step Four:

IMG_3975-2

Arrange ornaments on your tree!

Step Five:

IMG_3983-2

Create your tree topper. I chose a star because It seemed to be the easiest. I used pipe cleaner, and sparkly pom poms. I also used a pipe cleaner to attach the star to the board so that I could remove it later.

Final Step:

IMG_3978-2

Place tree in your designated tree spot. Mine is next to my fireplace, resting on a brick that protrudes out.

IMG_3976-2

And if your getting antsy for Christmas morning, put one of your favorite Christmas Helper kitties under the tree for safe keeping!

And that’s all there is to it! It was super fun to do, and you can personalize it and make it anything you want. All of the supplies (minus the scissors, the glue gun and the kitties) were only about $15 dollars at my local Hobby Lobby. For something cheap and fun and easy to do, this is a great project.

I hope that you try it out! If you do, let me know how yours turns out! I would love to see some others!

Happy Friday!

Bryce!!!
