Music Monday #1

I’m a big fan of alliteration. As if you couldn’t tell from History Hump or Film Friday. (Other favorite days of mine include Champagne Thursday.) In honor of alliteration comes yet other theme day! Music Monday. Every Monday I will present to you something musical that I think you should know about. If you already do know about it, no matter what your feelings, I would love to hear them. I’ll be starting off with an explanation of some of the other musical talents I enjoy so that you can get an idea of where I’m coming from. I understand that I have a somewhat eclectic taste in music. And that most of the bands I will be mentioning are no longer around. I still feel that they deserve some credit however. No matter how old a good record, it’s still a good record. With no further ado, Music Monday!

A list of some of my favorites by album and song: Foo Fighters- Foo Fighters, The Colour and The Shape, There is Nothing Left to Lose. Breeders- Title TK, Pod, Last Splash. “The Breeders are an American rock band formed in 1988 by Kim Deal of the Pixies and Throwing Muses' Tanya Donelly. The current line-up consists of Kim Deal (vocals and guitar), her twin sister Kelley Deal (vocals and guitar), José Medeles (drums) and Mando Lopez (bass).” The Breeders lineup has been ever changing. Kim Deal being the only steady member. They were quoted as being a "Boston girl super-group" when they first started, with their all girl line-up.

“American Rock”, it’s something that we all need from time to time. Straight forward, heartfelt songs put to a uplifting beat. And then there’s the Beatles cover.

Some of my favorite songs? Little Fury, I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still In Love With You), Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Lime House, Fortunately Gone…. I could list songs till I’m blue in the face. Frankly, they are great.

Every song has a loving feeling to it. The feeling that the musicians really care about what they are putting out. They also had the help of one of the best engineers out there, Steve Albini. It never hurts to have someone like that in your corner.

If I was slightly more computer savvy, I would link to every one of my favorite songs. Instead, I will leave you with this video.

I hope that you enjoy them as much as me and Kurt do! "The main reason I like [The Breeders] is for their songs, for the way they structure them, which is totally unique, very atmospheric. I wish Kim was allowed to write more songs for the Pixies, because 'Gigantic' is the best Pixies song, and Kim wrote it."- Kurt Cobain
