Early Bird Gets the Worm

If I’m not an early worm, and I’m not a night owl, does that just make me lazy? A question we may never know the answer to. Similar to: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Ok, so maybe I shouldn’t try to post so late at night. I’m clearly delirious.

On a sharper note (pun intended), sorry for the slight blur. Apparently focusing my camera with my glasses on isn’t very accurate. Who knew, I figured it would be better. I think that I’ve just learned to compensate for my lack of focus in my normal vision.

Look what I found in the last bit of snow on my back porch/ cement slab. Isn’t it so perfect!?

I love this sweater. I love this skirt. I love these shoes. I love this brick wall. There isn’t much more explanation needed for this outfit. That’s pretty much the gist of it.

I was trying to improve on my model poses. Most of the photos turned out like garbage. Ha! I’ll stick with the same old poses for now. Improvements to come sooner or later.

In case you were wondering. Open toes in the winter? Only feasible while wearing three pairs of tights. And even then it’s a brave move.

Good news? It’s my Friday! Wish me a good weekend. Got any hot plans for yours?

History Hump #6

10 Christmas vs. the Pagan Winter Festival.

I know that this might be a touchy subject for some, but I find it very interesting. I will do my best to keep my personal views separate from the facts.

No one knows what day Jesus Christ was born on. From the biblical description, most historians believe that his birth probably occurred in September, approximately six months after Passover. One thing they agree on is that it is very unlikely that Jesus was born in December, since the bible records shepherds tending their sheep in the fields on that night. This is quite unlikely to have happened during a cold Judean winter. So why do we celebrate Christ’s birthday as Christmas, on December the 25th?

The answer lies in the pagan origins of Christmas. In ancient Babylon, the feast of the Son of Isis (Goddess of Nature) was celebrated on December 25. Raucous partying, gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift-giving were traditions of this feast. “

However, it’s not just the date that holds similarities.

“It is in ancient Rome that the tradition of the Mummers was born. The Mummers were groups of costumed singers and dancers who traveled from house to house entertaining their neighbors. From this, the Christmas tradition of caroling was born.

Huge Yule logs were burned in honor of the sun. The word Yule itself means “wheel,” the wheel being a pagan symbol for the sun. Mistletoe was considered a sacred plant, and the custom of kissing under the mistletoe began as a fertility ritual. Hollyberries were thought to be a food of the gods.

The tree is the one symbol that unites almost all the northern European winter solstices. Live evergreen trees were often brought into homeschristmas-tree-pics-0203 during the harsh winters as a reminder to inhabitants that soon their crops would grow again.”

Here’s the touchy part.

“In 350, Pope Julius I declared that Christ’s birth would be celebrated on December 25. There is little doubt that he was trying to make it as painless as possible for pagan Romans (who remained a majority at that time) to convert to Christianity. The new religion went down a bit easier, knowing that their feasts would not be taken away from them.”

I feel like most people don’t want to believe that the Catholic church would change such an important day just to pacify the Pagans. Unfortunately though, it does seem that way. Sorry to say it, but it seems to be that way with other holidays as well. But let’s save that for a whole other History Hump.

“Christmas as we know it today, most historians agree, began in Germany, though Catholics and Lutherans still disagree about which church celebrated it first. The earliest record of an evergreen being decorated in a Christian celebration was in 1521 in the Alsace region of Germany. A prominent Lutheran minister of the day cried blasphemy: “Better that they should look to the true tree of life, Christ.”

The controversy continues even today in some fundamentalist sects.”

history-of-christmas-traditions.s600x600 No matter what the case may be. I love the Christmas holiday as we know it. Sure, it was never really a religious celebration in my home, but I can enjoy it for what it is. A time to gather the family and be thankful for the year that you have had together, and look forward to the one ahead.

As for Santa? Maybe we’ll find out next Wednesday!

Hope your holiday is full of fun and good cheer!

Living Room Sleepovers

IMG_3918-2

Outfit Details: Sweater- thrifted; Jeans- Urban Outfitters; Shirt- I have no clue

It is very cold in Tennessee. Like super duper cold. So, the man and I have been sleeping in the living room downstairs in order to take full advantage of our heater (which does not heat out upstairs bedroom). It’s quite comfortable since the futon that is our couch is also the futon that is our bed. We pretty much just transfer our pillows and top blankets downstairs and have a living room party. It’s also nice because we don’t have a t.v. in our room, so we can stay up until the wee hours of the night watching movies and being giggly.

Guitars: White Hagstrom Viking (mine); Black Hagstrom Super Swede (Sean’s); Black Squier Bronco Bass (mine)

Our cats are loving it. They get free reign of the house to go crazy and run around like mad men, and ladies.

I have had this sweater for a while. It seems to fit way better than it did when I got it. I got it because it was awesome, obviously! I don’t know if I have gained weight, or lost some, but whatever it is. It is working for this sweater. I think it is also pretty fitting for the holidays.

As you can see, our living room doubles as our studio. The next two weeks when we have a vacation! we’re actually going to be using it, and starting our record. I’m pretty excited about it.

Those are pretty much my big Christmas plans. You got any?

For some reason (I think that it’s because of Love Actually) my favorite Christmas song is ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’. I find this funny since it is a rather modern song. I find it to be one of the only really good Christmas songs to come from any year after the 60’s. Approximately.

Like all Christmas songs, it’s been done multiple times. Here are my favorite.

Keep Snow In Your Heart

Outfit Details: Dress- thrifted; Shirt- Walmart; Socks- Target; Shoes- Vintage

I have a secret to tell. I didn’t wear this today. It didn’t actually snow the day I wore this at all. But I failed at getting pictures of this the day I did wear it. So, here you go.

On Saturday, the day in question, we spent all day in the office. Not my office, I don’t have an office. All day in Sean’s office. It was cool. I got high speed internet all day. I couldn’t complain. Then we went to a friends house and played Wii dodge ball and tennis till my arm nearly fell off. it was a pretty nice night. The other female and I also entertained the men with a quick game of We Cheer. It’s pretty much Dance Dance Revolution but with your arms.

IMG_3885-2

IMG_3891-2

IMG_3888-2

My dress says “Noel” and “Keep Christmas in your heart”. In case you were wondering.

If you take a quick look at my right strap, you’ll see a missing button. In the midst of a my Wii’ing, I lost a button. I have it, I just have yet to re-attach it.

One more thing……. AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! SNOW!!! In Tennessee! In December! Apparently this is odd. Snow in general is odd to me. I’m pretty much ready to sled down my back yard right now. I knew I should have bought that this weekend like I wanted to!

Film Friday

Predator

MV5BMTM1Njk0MjIwN15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzgwNzEyMQ@@._V1._SY314_CR2,0,214,314_

Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Kevin Peter Hall.

Plot: Dutch and his group of commandos are hired by the CIA to rescue downed airmen from guerillas in a Central American jungle. The mission goes well but as they return they find that something is hunting them. Nearly invisible, it blends in with the forest, taking trophies from the bodies of it's victims as it goes along. Occasionally seeing through it's eyes, the audience sees it is an intelligent alien hunter, hunting them for sport, killing them off one at a time.

Arnold movies have always been some of my favorites. Kindergarten Cop, The Terminator, Total Recall,  Pumping Iron. Predator however, I had never seen until recently. It is now one of my favorites. It’s one of the ultimate action movies of all time.

And with quotes like these, it can’t NOT be a classic:

“Get to the chopper!”

“Come with me if you want to live!”

“What's the matter? The CIA got you pushing too many pencils?”

“Over there, beyond them trees.”

“I ain’t got time to bleed.”

“I’m gunna have me some fun. I’m gunna heave me some fun. I’m gunna have me some fun. I’m gunna have me some fun.”

The Hunt

Although I am very happy with my most recent coat purchase. The Twins of the Mississippi Coat from Modcloth. I was informed that I am going to need something a little more heavy duty. Something snow worthy. Now, I am on the hunt. I have a very specific idea of what I want. That is not making it very easy on me. I want a hood, I want toggles, and I need it to be warm!

What I want:

5edf2461e2fcf8c81ca27b973a26c0e02bd24078-200  EB10ID_0067284_800B1 paddlecoat

first two from Eddie Bauer- Wool-Blend Duffle Coat ($199); third from Dear Creatures- Paddle Coat ($243)

What I’ll “settle” for (haha, settle. I would be honored to have any of these):

il_570xN.191547603

Coats.Topshop.Hooded.Duffle.Cape  829146_RED_Bound-Seam-Duffle-Coat_1

first from Dear Golden Etsy- vintage wool toggle coat ($120); next two from Topshop- Bound Seam Hooded Duffle Coat & Hooded Duffle Cape (both $160)

I am hoping that I end up with one from column two. Maybe just get the red one in blue. I am so confused! But if I decide that even that is too much for me. And the gift cards I am hoping to get for Christmas. Then maybe one from column three will be my winner.

41REnbICxeL._AA260_

1a86ad8b2e3dd43baa58fb0c2ab2754f

First two from Target ($49); third from Walmart ($27)

Maybe not the third column, but we’ll see. sometimes a compromise is in order.

Lennon was my personal favorite Beatle. For many reasons. Mostly his early songs. I very much enjoy the first three Beatles records. I like pop song, don’t judge!

30 years ago today John Lennon was murdered. He is still considered one of the most influential musicians and song writers of popular music. Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace.

Outfit Details: Skirt- thrifted; Top- Forever 21(dress); Jacket- H&M; Shoes- Vintage; Belt- Urban Outfitters; Glasses- Ray-Ban

I found this skirt on my wild and crazy thrifting trip (same day as these shoes). It is handmade. I’m not sure when it was made, since it doesn’t have any tags or anything. But the color is amazing. And it totally fits this mid length obsession that everyone and their mother has been having lately. It’s also nice and thick, so even in this cold, snowy weather we’ve been having it is still pretty comfortable.

These shoes… well, I have worn them just about every day since I got them. I’m hooked.

IMG_3858

IMG_3861

When i bought this jacket years ago, it was my attempt at being feminine. Obviously, my description of feminine has changed significantly since then. I still love this jacket though. You’ll find me trying to wear it through summer. I swear, I’m crazy like that.

Have a great Tuesday night!

Bryce!!!

P.S. It feels so weird to have my forehead showing! It’s been so long since I’ve seen my hair line. When I got my hair cut, I remembered that I had eyebrows. That was a fiasco! Cheers to Shannon for not screaming when she saw the live animals that had made a living on my face. (not really that bad, but it was close.) Just ask my mom, she would tell you that’s how they are.

Music Monday #4

Today, for your rocking pleasure: Hot Snakes.

Hot Snakes HotSnakes

In 2005, Hot Snakes album Audit In Progress was voted “best punk album” at the San Diego Music Awards. They broke up that same year.

Members: Rick Froberg - guitar, lead vocals (1999–2005), John Reis - guitar, backing vocals (1999–2005), Gar Wood - bass, backing vocals (1999–2005), Jason Kourkounis - drums (1999–2003), Mario Rubalcaba - drums (2003–2005)

This type of raw garage punk rock just isn’t around anymore. You really can’t find anything this strong and well done. At least not in the punk rock category. These guys are just simple dudes making great music. Or made, I should say.

They have three studio records. Automatic Midnight (2000), Suicide Invoice (2002), Audit In Progress (2004). All put out by Swami Records, John Reis’ record company. Not every song is a hit, by any means, but each of these three albums have songs that will forever be on my favorites list.

Some of my favorite songs?

Automatic Midnight: Automatic Midnight, No Hands, 10th Planet

Suicide Invoice: I Hate the Kids, Suicide Invoice, LAX

Audit In Progress: Kreative Kontrol

Prove it?

There it is. Hope you enjoyed.

Bryce!!!
