Tales from the Dark Side: The Movie

                               MV5BMTg5MzYyNDY1N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNDY2MDk5._V1._SX214_CR0,0,214,314_

Starring: Deborah Harry, Christian Slater, Rae Dawn Chong, Matthew Lawrence (as the little kid!), Steve Buscemi, Jullian Moore

Plot: In anthology style, a child tells three stories of horror to keep from being eaten by a witch.

The movie version of an 80’s tv show, this movie is another great horror classic. Similar to the way Creepshow is set up, as well as Twilight Zone: The Movie, multiple stories are told throughout, all tied together by a boy reading a book. They’re not the scariest stories in the world, nor is it the the best acting. But with actors like these, you can’t go wrong! It has all my favorite things! A story written by Stephen King, and screen play by George Romero, and Jullian Moore!

Outfit Details:

Cardigan- Target

Skirt- Handmade

Tights- Sears

Shoes- Madewell

Outfits using colors that didn’t used to “go” together seems to be huge right now. It’s all over the blogosphere and all over the streets. I just finished making this dusty rose/ pink skirt, and I thought, what better a color top to go with it than a maroon/ red. I really do love the these colors together anyways.

I had quite the mishap while hemming this skirt. As you can see in the pictures, it’s not exactly straight. Fortunately, I think that I have enough length at the bottom to give it another go.

I have not had internet for some time, and am just now starting to catch up on all my blog reading. It’s been killing me! I never realize how dependant I am on the internet until I am without it. I’m going back and reading them in sequential order, I’m on about September 28th. Hopefully I can catch up soon.

Now for the real stars of this outfit: My new Madewell Shoes! They were on sale on the website, and I just could not pass them up. I have been dying for these for ages. I know that, like always, I’m a little late on this trend. But I figure that since they are platforms, they should be good for even the slightly wet and cold times. I’m planning on finishing the wood so that it doesn’t get ruined. They are so comfortable and just a perfect fit. Of course, I went against the recommendation of the website, and ordered a size down from my 8 1/2 instead of a size up. They fit like a glove! A very comfortable glove at that. Because of the platform, they aren’t a very steep incline. Which makes them almost as if I’m wearing flats. I’m simply in love.

Outfit Details:

Boots- Nordstrom’s Rack

These boots were probably the best purchase I have ever made. I have a friend that works at the Mac in Nordstrom. And she was kind enough to take me on a shopping trip to Rack. I’m not sure how much they were originally (Although I looked them up on Amazon and they were nearly $200!), but I got them for $70!. They were my first boots ever. Oh, how I love them so… They are just so comfortable. And they have a faux fir lining that keeps my legs nice and toasty come winter time.

This is the third skirt in my series. The second was quite a bit too big (oops), although I was able to put it to use as a work friendly skirt. This is definitely my best so far. I am trying to perfect this design and hopefully start my own label and Etsy store and what-not. I’m sure that’s a while in my future. But that’s the overall goal.

This lighting ended up being more tricky than I bargained for. I had dreams of it being interesting and artsy and pretty to look at. Turns out it’s just hard to decipher. At least I know better for next time.

My birthday present came in the mail today. I had lunch with Sean and when I got home there was a big box just waiting to be let inside. Of course I’m not allowed to open it yet! I know what it is since it’s the one big thing I’ve been asking for from Sean, but I’m going to wait till I have it to make any more fuss about it. With just seven days left until I turn 22, my days of being 21 and carefree are dwindling. Oh, who are we kidding? I’m an old lady. And I don’t expect anything too exciting to come from being another year older.

Outfit Details:

Shirt- Forever 21

Shorts, belt- thrifted

Jacket- Gap

Tights- Sears

I wore something super similar to this when I did my inspired by Lulu Letty post not too long ago, but it was just felt too right to not wear these shorts again. It is amazing out and very much fall. This morning was extra amazing out. Bright and sunny and about 65 degrees. It did get a little warmer and a little cloudier. But I still love it so much. The crazy summer heat here in Nashville was a little much for this So. Cal. girl, so I am more than excited to welcome the cool weather.

I visited one of my local Goodwill’s to see if I could pick up something for my Halloween costume. I ended up with a hospital gown dress (not for Halloween, it was just awesome) and this belt. I needed a good leather belt for shorts and dresses and what not. It’s not quite big enough for my normal waist, which makes it perfect size for high waisted items.

IMG_3433-2

I didn’t really need to wear such a heavy coat today. Mainly, I just couldn’t decide on anything lighter. I have had this jacket for a few years now. It has the best seafoam green liner ever. It was the most I had ever spent on any clothing before. It has proved to be a worthwhile investment.

Believe it or not, my hair is quite a bit lighter than it was before. You could never tell by the pictures, but I’m on my way to natural hair color once again. Shout out to Shannon at Tangles Hendersonville for hookin’ it up with an awesome hair cut.

And the Halloween theme returns with… dun dun dun… Forbidden Zone.

                             _images_ForbiddenZoneArt_home5

Starring: Hervé Villechaize, Danny Ellfman (also does all the music!), Marie-Pascale Elfman, Susan Tyrrell, Gisele Lindley

Plot: A mysterious door in the basement of the Hercules house leads to the Sixth Dimension by way of a gigantic set of intestine. When Frenchy slips through the door, King Fausto falls in love with her. The jealous Queen Doris takes Frenchy prisoner, and it is up to the Hercules family and friend Squeezit Henderson to rescue her.

Ok, so it’s not really a Halloween movie. But it sure did frighten me. Sean said that he had been watching this movie since he was a kid. I think it had something to torture and punishment. It’s not really that bad. I’m just exaggerating. It’s more just super crazy. Every time I thought that I couldn’t take it anymore, an amazing musical number would pop up, and re-intrigue me. It’s just to strange to not watch. You’ll definitely never forget this one.

In the Life of Cheeks

      IMG_3405

A few weeks ago, Labor Day weekend to be exact, I bought a hamster. She is a Russian Dwarf hamster. Sean appropriately named her Checoslovaquia. Cheeks for short.

       IMG_3414

She lives in my sewing room, so that the cats can’t get to her on a regular basis. I do let her run around the house in her ball most nights. She should be on American Gladiator. She runs into the cats legs when they don’t move out of her way. Occasionally the cats get frisky and paw at the ball (they get popped when they do that). But mostly they just stare at her, having no idea what this intruder is doing in their house.

I had a problem the first few days of having her getting over my fear of being bitten. They are only little hamster teeth, but the are still teeth! Ha! Well, after sticking our bare hands in the cages, and getting rewarded with bites, Sean and I were feeling defeated. I came to a conclusion that a compromise had to be made. I wanted to pick Cheeks up. And Cheeks didn’t want to be picked up. So, now I use her igloo. It’s easy, and she feels safe. Once I get her out of the cage I put her in my hand and she’s fine. Now it’s just a matter of getting used to each other.

        IMG_3419

Since Cheeks doesn’t get a lot of face time when it come to fashion, I thought I would give her her own post.

She’s super fun. It’s crazy to think that I have yet another small furry creature living in my house as a guest. That always amazes me. I know, I over think things.

I hope you all enjoyed this little break from the regular schedule. I know I sure did. Back to regular stuff tomorrow.

Outfit Details:

Dress- H&M

Tights- Sears

Shoes- Toms

I wore something almost exactly like this during the summer. I tried to convert this to slightly more of a fall friendly outfit. I pretty much just love this dress. The fact that it can be worn in warm or cold, loose or belted, makes it priceless in a small wardrobe.

IMG_3402-2

My birthday is two weeks away, and all I can do is think about my presents! I know that is horrible, but I’m basically 12 years old. Sean and I just got Mario Party 8 and it’s all we’ve been doing. We’re both 12. It’s great.

Oh My Roots

IMG_3384-2

IMG_3371-2

IMG_3375-2

Outfit Details:

Dress- Tulle

Top- Walmart

No really. Oh my roots! After long debating weather or not to keep my hair dark brown, which I love, I have decided to go the cheaper, less destructive route by going back to my natural color. The problem, I don’t particularly remember what my natural color is! Oh the woes of hair coloring! So I am letting my hair grow to the point where I can just tell a colorist to die the rest the color of my roots. I was never a fan of grown out die jobs. Now with this ombre trend, it may not be too terrible. Unfortunately, I would have the opposite of the desired effect. Soon I will have normal looking hair.

Another great Tulle dress! I sure do love pockets in dresses. I have been making my fair share of skirts lately, but pockets are one thing that I have yet to master. I would love to be able to add them to my own designs.

IMG_3381-2

IMG_3382-2

I have been trying to find a top to go under this dress since I got it a year ago. While walking through Walmart, I glanced a peter pan collar out of the corner of my eye. I got so excited! Just ask Sean. It was kind of ridiculous. Luckily, they had a child’s extra large! My sad chubby arms are a bit too big for the buttoned sleeves, but I’m working on that. In multiple ways.

Of course I wear tights all summer long, and on the first cool day of Fall I go out bare legged! why do I have to dress so weather inappropriate all the time? Silly, silly weather.

Troop Beverly Hills!!!!!

When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping!

                               Troop-Beverly-Hills-1989

Starring: Shelly Long, Craig T. Nelson, Jenny Lewis, Carla Gugino

Plot: A soon to be divorced Beverly Hills society wife (Phyllis Nefler) is determined to prove to her husband (Freddy) and herself that she can finish what she starts out to do. She soon realizes that being a Wilderness Girls' den mother to a troop of Beverly Hills-bred girls is not as easy as buying cookies.

This movie holds a special place in my heart. And not only because it co-stars the lovely Jenny Lewis. I have been a girl scout all my life, and I grew up in California. Sure, Anaheim is no Beverly Hills, but I still feel a connection. I pretty much love this move. A lot.
